Finish work at HUNT on Friday. European Masters Champion by Sunday.

On Friday, as is traditional at The Rider Firm, we popped over to The Partridge after work for a beer or two in the sun. Si told us he was heading over to The Netherlands for 'a race' with some teammates from the local South Downs Bikes RT, and promptly pedalled home after his pint. Fast forward to Sunday, and he's the newly minted European Masters Champion. We're over the moon about it here at HUNT HQ, as it truly couldn't have happened to a nicer guy. Well deserved, and certainly earned.

Josh rides the Tour Divide

The Tour Divide represents, in my eyes, the pinnacle of unsupported long distance bike racing. It was the event that first introduced me to the world of ultra endurance back in 2008 when I read an article in a magazine about Jenn Hill who rode the Divide on a single speed in one of the first editions of the race. I was intrigued but the event was still a long way out of reach for me. Fast forward a few years and Mike Halls incredible rides down the Divide, breaking the record and setting a new standard for long distance racing and I knew I’d be racing one day.

HUNT at Dirty Reiver 2019

We were eager to see how Gosse would fare over the 200 kms of fast gravel around Kielder Forest and he didn't disappoint. Averaging 27 kmh (16.7 mph) over the 187 km course with over 3,000 metres of elevation, Gosse proved to be a Flying Dutchman crossing the line just 3 minutes after the winner.

The event wasn't short of drama, Gosse had a nasty puncture the night before, needing to patch his rear tyre and ride with an inner tube for the entire distance. With the help of Bombtrack, Weldtite, Panaracer, Lezyne and ourselves, we somehow managed to supply Gosse with everything needed in case of another puncture (or five), so he set off almost stress-free. If you've spent time around Gosse before a race or event, you'll appreciate this. Fortunately enough, he only suffered one. So, after a quick repair, he managed to get back on and continue with his bid for gravel glory.

Al's Custom Swarf

Our very own internet legend Al, yes he is the guy from the MBR videos, had a very specific criteria in mind when looking for his new bike.

Unfortunately, nobody produced what he wanted. So, undeterred he set about finding a builder to create his own one of a kind ride.

We spoke to Josh, who confirmed Ryan is the real deal, and the two spent some time together at BikingMan Oman. The result? The trailer for what we think will grow to be a pivotal documentary.
